Three Kinds

I've been taught since I was young that water comes in three kinds.
That number is low, despite science on its side.
It's more than just hydration or making scotch feel at home.
There are more than three kinds of the liquid alone.
The salt waves of the surfer are one story tall,
But the snorkeler's warm salt seas don't move much at all.
The warm, saltless surf of a great inland lake
Cools off family vacations so they don't overbake.
The closest cousin of the colors in Hawai'i, the brilliant blues,
Are the calm, near-freezing waters of Montana's glacial pools.

Until they're all mixed and their energy's spent
The world's waters will vary in taste and intent.
