A Toast to Ten Years of Unnecessary Learning That Maybe Made Me Who I Am

I am a know-it-all with a lot to learn.
I was a know-it-all with a lot to learn
Ten years ago.
Then I learned how the other half lives.
I learned how the forty-seven percent lives.
I learned exactly how forgetting works.

I learned that you can make ten years
Out of slim hopes and lying and hiding,
and now I'm going to learn if that's like
Writing, or if it's like riding a bicycle,
Because I don't plan on practicing,
Not for a long time, anyway.
