Natural

Nothing is more natural
Than loving someone in pain.
Whether for their comfort, or my gain,
I'm never prepared to honestly explain.

What isn't so natural is the course
Affairs take. The only thing worse
Than coming in too hot is too cold.
My touch or my distance always grow old.

Though we thank one another for time shared,
It's apparent that neither of us were prepared
To take the step off the edge of the pool.
Now you're hurt, I'm all wet, and we both look like fools.
