Hindsight

Mom was always telling
Us not to fuss or pout.
If you never give in,
Then you never give out.

Teenage life taught us
Determination needs control,
To stop talking, stop digging,
Once we're in a hole.

Both lessons were half-right,
The other half were wrong.
You never know which way to go,
