The Gift

I'm sorry I laughed when you said
That "You-and-I" should be.
I'm sorry I had any doubt
That you could value me.

A false hope might have ended me,
Though that's a poor excuse.
I imagine there's no greater gift
Than the embrace I get from you.

You temper my most frightful moods
With a gently soothing hand.
You encourage me to be
The man you think I am.

But Dear, I have one thing to ask
and Darling, answer true.
Tell me if there's any way
To share that joy with you.
