Between poetry and prose,
Furious moments followed by repose,
Is one of two attitudes for the
player-bard
Who might stroke smoothly or hit hard,
Live in the moment or laud the past,
Lay down a dribbler or launch a blast,
Worship the field or force the play,
Pay homage holy, play games profane,
Shuffle the lineup or stick with his
best,
Two nights in a row or on three days'
rest,
Be patient and take, or swing away,
At nights, under lights, or on weekend
days,
Be an everyday regular or play a role,
Judge fair or foul at the sight of a
pole,
Sacrifice and play small or hold out
for more,
Hold on, keep it close, or repeatedly
score,
Hit a home run after singles and slaps.
It's a pickle, but baseball brews
metaphors apt.
