The Plan From Here

The sight of your eyes complicates this simple poet.
I felt a change in my mind, but I was a fool to undergo it.
I gave you support when others might be tempted to advise.
I'm the one who keeps your head up and in the loop (or tries).
I gave you chances, which you wasted,
and I let you come back for seconds.
I gave you what I could afford –
As much and more than you deserved.
The plan from here until the year's end
Is to assume you're a peripheral unisex friend
Until one of us leaves or I can't recall
That you were ever a woman at all.

Your figure may complicate what is otherwise simple.
