What If You Won't?

I hate that our lives are crammed, structured and squared.
I hate that I say that and people just stare.
Can't stand quietly by and accept any more,
Righteous rage and hypocrisy evenly scored.

See, I'm held up in part by this cage I despise.
Our culture cripples the skills that I'd need to survive
If I just up and left.  Will I chance it?  I doubt it.
I can't live with it, and I can't live without it.

  1. The poem's title is a reference to the chorus of a song called "Yeah, Whatever" by a band called "Splender". Yes, it's ridiculously obscure. No, I'm not turning into a hipster. I only like it because it's from 1999 and I like most of the alternative music from 1999.
